ADAPT:
An Exercise in Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender (GLBT) Sensitivity
and Cultural Competency
Homophobia is alive and well in the State of Michigan. It's just one
of the many co-factors to HIV infection. For over five years the department
of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Intervention Section (HAPIS) of the State
of Michigan Health Department has supported MAPP in the implementation
of this two hour program for numerous youth centers, substance abuse
and mental health agencies, universities and colleges. Over 5,000
people have gone through our ADAPT program.
ADAPT lays the ground work towards sensitivity and cultural competency
in servicing consumers who are Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender.
The interactive format allows participants to explore their values,
attitudes and beliefs about interacting with GLBT consumers. The ADAPT
program creates a "safe space" for self-exploration, evaluation
and understanding to take place, thereby providing more sensitive
and culturally competent service providers.
There is no fee to have MAPP's knowledgeable and well trained staff
conduct the ADAPT program. For more additional information call MAPP
at 248-545-1435. |
