Safer Sex means being smart and staying healthy. It means showing love, concern, and respect for your partner and yourself. Safer sex means enjoying sex to the fullest without transmitting, or acquiring, sexually related infections. Safer sex does not have to mean eliminating sexual passion and intimacy for your life. Safer sex means reducing the chance of acquiring HIV infection. For individuals who decide to engage in sexual intercourse, reducing the risk of HIV infection means using latex barriers (such as Kimono Comdoms*) every time you have intercourse.

Talking. Talking can make every other sexual activity safer. Talking helps you to get to know your partner better, contributes to sexual pleasure, and provides an opportunity to negotiate safer sex practices.

Fantasy. The brain creates images and finds words to arouse, delight, and satisfy. Imagination and creativity add richness to sexual experiences.
Touching. Touching, caressing, and massage provide warm, affectionate, and safe intimacy. The imaginative use of fingers and hands can relax and excite.

Masturbation. Is safe as long as semen or vaginal fluids do not come into contact with broken skin.

Kissing.
There is no documented evidence that kissing transmits HIV, though deep kissing can transmit other sexually transmitted diseases. Kissing your partners body (other than their genitals) will not spread HIV.

Oral Sex/Man. The risk of acquiring HIV by performing oral sex on a man (fellatio, "blow-job") seems very low but is uncertain. Since pre-ejaculatory fluid ("pre-cum") may contain HIV, stopping before ejaculation does not necessarily reduce the risk. The risk of HIV infection if the action is being performed on you is extremely low, if the risk exists at all. Using a latex condom further reduces the risk of transmitting HIV.

Oral Sex/Woman.
The risk of acquiring HIV by performing oral sex on a woman (cunnilingus) seems very low but is uncertain. Using a latex square, dental dam, condoms split lengthwise, or clear plastic wrap as a barrier can further reduce the risk. Cunnilingus during menstruation increases the risk. The risk of HIV infection if the action is being performed on you is extremely low, if the risk exists at all.

Oral-Anal Contact.
The risk of transmitting HIV to either partner through oral-anal contact ("rimming") is uncertain but seems to be low in risk. However, rimming can transmit other organisms. Using a latex barrier can reduce risk.

Vaginal Intercourse. HIV may pass from man to woman or woman to man during vaginal intercourse without a condom. Latex greatly reduces the chance of acquiring or transmitting HIV during vaginal intercourse.

Anal Intercourse.
HIV may pass from man to man or man to woman during anal intercourse without a condom. Latex greatly reduces the chance of acquiring or transmitting HIV during anal intercourse. R
