SCRUBS: Sensitivity/Cultural Competency Workshop – for Health Care Professionals

Scrubs has received funding for a new program to provide sensitivity trainings for health care providers in metropolitan Detroit. The SCRUBS workshop focuses on becoming competent in working with the glbt (gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender) population, an issue the State of Michigan Health Department believes is very important.

According to recent studies, from around the nation many physicians report discomfort, lack of knowledge and lack of appropriate resources when providing care to members of the glbt community. Communication barriers between physicians and patients can impede glbt individuals from establishing trusting relationships with their health care providers; preventing them from receiving the screening and prevention services they need.

This is usually a two-hour training, however we can conduct the workshop in one hour. Training manuals and resources will be provided. There is no cost to your facility.

We are confident that your staff will gain valuable knowledge and skills, increasing their ability to better serve clients/patients. HIV infection and other life threatening health problems don’t occur in a vacuum. There are a host of issues that come into play for individuals, which may lead them to unhealthy situations. By providing your agency with the SCRUBS workshop, you can help break this cycle.
