Use a condom. Get tested.

Testing

Get Tested!

  • Know your HIV status and share it with your partner
  • Wait 21 days to 3 months before getting an HIV test after unprotected sexual activity or sharing needles or objects (razors, piercing/tattooing items, etc.)
  • If you don't like needles, ask about the Orasure test

Types of Testing:

  • Blood Draw - Standard drawing of blood.
  • Finger Prick - Single prick on the tip of your finger to take a sample of your blood.
  • Orasure - An instrument similar to a q-tip is placed in your mouth between your gum and your cheek.

If you are worried about privacy, make sure you get tested somewhere that offers one of the following:

Anonymous Testing
Your name and personal information is not associated with the test results. You may be assigned a number that you will use to get your results.

Confidential Testing
Your name is associated with the test results, however, these results will not be shared with anyone.

HIV is a virus, and viruses do not discriminate. It doesn't matter if you are sexually active with men, women, or both, you can get HIV if you have unsafe sex. What matters is what you do and how you do it.

Practicing safer sex and getting tested on a regular basis will greatly decrease your chances of getting HIV!

Please view the list of testing sites in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties.
